  239. Adam Bernstein has made a great web page for info on transparent and
  240. interlaced GIFs. The page just keeps getting better and better. This is
  241. a great resource and just another reminder that individuals still make up
  242. the bulk of the Internet resources and individual effort can really make
  243. a web page or ftp site shine bright. Corporate sites (IMHO) will never
  244. replace individual or well-done home page sites of a determined netter.
  245. If you're looking for info on transparent and interlaced GIFs, Adam has
  246. attempted to collect links to all the Web and FTP resources that various
  247. individuals and companies have made available. The info here includes most
  248. computing platforms (Unix, Mac, PC), and also includes many applications
  249. and programs with many tutorials.  Check it out! If you don't have Web
  250. access, you can get a text version of the resource and links list from the
  251. FTP site shown above. If you do have WWW access - the web page URL is the
  252. much more preferred method. Either way this site is a must for web writers!

  260. The Internet Roundtable Society has created WebChat server software for
  261. free Web distribution. The software resides on a web server and includes
  262. such features as multiple chat rooms and different levels of discussion
  263. moderation from no moderation to heavily moderated. Since the software
  264. exists entirely on the web server it requires no download to the users
  265. and no software learning curve for users. Once the software is installed
  266. on a WWW server it works with any web browser that can support forms. Most
  267. new versions of web browsers (Netscape, Mosaic, etc.) can support forms.
  268. A great idea whose time has come. It gives an easy to use interface much
  269. like AOL chat rooms and does away with often cryptic IRC sessions. No
  270. special client software is needed by users. WebChat software is available
  271. for download (free) in versions for Macintosh and Unix. WebChat can easily
  272. be setup on a Mac web server using MacHTTP and the total cost is... free.

  279. This lets a web page designer enter any text and then choose the fonts and
  280. the color of the text that the chosen font creates. Many web page designing
  281. tools (shareware and commercial) limit the writer to a few font types or
  282. worse - only one particular font face. WebFonts does away with all that and
  283. generates HTML code to be placed in the page to code the font types and

  592. server and an external application or program (located outside of the web
  593. page or web server software unlike the brand new HotJava protocols) CGI is
  594. still the accepted "standard" for making calls to outside programs from
  595. a pathway that begins with a user usually filling out a forms-based page
  596. (web HTML document) then entering the request or query which is then passed
  597. on to the web server and then finally routed to the appropriate program
  598. such as a search engine or database program. The pathway looks like this...
  599. web page ---> CGI script ---> web server ---> outside program
  600. the results or actions of the program can be then sent back to the web page
